I'd sleep an hour and a half, two hours at a time.

Kevin Cottrell, US Army 1980 - 2008, talks about how he knew he had PTSD.

The nightmares were probably what was the hardest part

because they're reoccurring.

I didn't sleep well.

I'd sleep an hour and a half, two hours at a time.

I'd be lucky and wake up and then fall back to sleep again

or take 15, 20 minutes to get back to sleep.

Once I did, I'd have another nightmare

and that was just kicking my butt.

I was working at the time and I was tired all the time,

going into work, frustrated, angry.

I had short temper.

I became even more numb to my family

which I'm trying to get over now.

It's not even five years later, I'm still working that out.

But it's the not knowing if I'm gonna get better.

And now after I seeked therapy,

it's getting better, slowly but surely.
