I would get angry and then I would burn a bridge.

Chris Swift (US Army, 1999-2018) describes how his drinking affected his relationships with family and friends.

Transcript

Drinking stopped working,

or it didn’t work,

it worked a great majority

of the time, but it didn't work

when people close to me,

like people close here,

not the people that I was

with in the military,

but people close to home,

my family and friends here

when they would really get on me

and go, come on, man,

you got issues.

Let's do something about it.

Let's not

let it get out of hand.

And then I would

lash out at them,

and then I would get angry,

and then I would burn a bridge,

you know, because my family,

they cared about me,

you know, they didn't do

anything maliciously to hurt me

or they were just trying to help

and they

didn't know how to help.
