I would be drunk at work, but I could do my job.

Chris Swift (US Army, 1999-2018) saw himself as a "functional alcoholic" because he felt capable at work even when he was drunk.

I would be drunk at work,

but I could do my job.

And I think that's

why a lot of people

there allow it to happen,

you know,

which unfortunately they say

functional alcoholic.

One of my therapists,

one of my group therapists,

he said, that's

not even a real thing.

You can't be

a functional alcoholic.

I'm like, well, I beg to differ.

I could go do my job

for 12 hours sticking IVs.

So it wasn't fair

to my coworkers.

It wasn't fair to the patients

that we had. And,

it's one of those things

that nobody,

nobody there wanted to be like,

hey, man,

you can't do this.

You come again, you're gone.

And it's not their fault.

They, you know,

they just wanted somebody

to be able to do the job and,

you know, I think

I got away with

a lot more

than I should have.
