My treatment began immediately
when I was still on active duty,
and I went to this type
of therapy called EMDR.
And they had sat me down,
like I'm sitting right now,
and there was a bar in
front of me with lights
that moved back and forth
and two vibrating handles
that I had to hold in my hand.
What that helped me get
over was the thought
that the sniper was still hunting me
every time I heard a loud crack,
every time, like, a water bottle would pop
or anything would resemble the crack
of the rifle back in Iraq
and I thought that okay,
here's a sniper coming
back to finish the job.
So I went through multiple rounds of EMDR
to eventually kill the
sniper and put a face
on the person who shot me
so I wouldn't be haunted
by this ghost who would appear
every time life was normal for me.
