I wasn't taken seriously
because I was a black woman.

And a lot of people, a
lot of Caucasian people,

believe that black women
are strong and powerful,

and don't need anything, they
can take care of their self.

I've walked into offices
with psychologists,

or social workers also,
and asked, you know,

to have my needs met and

it was almost incredulous that
I asked the question to them

because they looked at
me like, who are you?

You know, like, what are you doing here?

Like, I didn't even have
a right to be there.

And my response is,

I'm Yvonne, and I need help.

I'm gonna tell them exactly
what it is that I need.

You know, I'm not gonna back down

not when it comes to my mental health.
