I wasn't sure it would even help.

Reedy Hopkins (US Air Force, 1983 - 2011) talks about what PTSD treatment was like.

Transcript

It just hit me and said, "You have to go seek help."

And I wasn't sure it would even help.

I wasn't sure that I had a problem.

And until the end of the session with the individual,

they said, "We have two ways we can write this up."

And the first way was,

"We can just say you have a trouble coping

with returning from the war."

Or, "You have PTSD."

And I looked at the individual and said,

"Do I have the symptoms of PTSD?" and she said, "Yes."

And I said, "Then that's the way it should be written up."

And she said, "You're not afraid that it will affect your career?"

And I said, at that point, "No.

It doesn't matter how it affects my career

because I can't go on living the way I'm living."
