I was...just constantly angry about something.

James Monk, US Air Force 1988 - 2011, talks about how he knew he had PTSD.

Transcript

We were in a gift shop at one of the local plantations here,

and it's nothing but, you know, Charlestonian artwork

with birds and flowers and, you know, peaceful, pretty stuff.

And all of a sudden, about 12 tourists walked through the door

at the same time, and I said, "I gotta go."

So, you know, I had to go outside and sit for a little while

and just be away from people.

It's not uncommon for things like that to happen.

Something like that could have potentially

put me into a three-day slump.

Where now, I can realize,

OK, things got a little dicey for a little while,

and I can walk away from it a little bit easier.
