I was set off and had anxiety for the next couple of hours.

Christopher D. Goehner, US Navy 2003 - 2006, talks about how he knew he had PTSD.

Transcript

I remember I worked a summer job as a landscaper and one

of the guys I worked with asked me,

"Have you ever killed someone?"

He was in the Army so he figured, well we were both

in the military we can talk about it.

It wasn't something I wanted to talk about

and for some reason every time I saw that guy

and we were landscaping, I wanted to take that shovel

that I was digging with and just beat his head in.

Another trigger that I had when I was working a summer job

as a landscaping, I was driving in the truck with my boss,

he was driving luckily.

A car backfired off to my right side.

I remember instantaneously jumping in my seat,

turning to the right, reaching back right

where my little peashooter 9 mil was since I had Marines

and was ready to engage.

And it all happened within a split second

and my boss was just like, "Holy crap, what's wrong?"

And I was just like, "It's all right, we're fine."

And I returned back and just kind of eased in

and I was set off and had anxiety for the next couple

of hours and couldn't focus

because we were driving in a truck.

It was an old diesel truck, sound of diesel engines

and there was a fire and you're ready to go and it all happen

so split second there was no thought put into it.

Surprised myself.
