I was hiding emotions and things in the drink...

Richard Sell, US Air Force 1958 - 1967, talks about why he didn't ask for help with his PTSD right away.

Transcript

What kept me out of the therapy for all those years was

lack of knowledge that I had the problem.

I was a moderate drinker, for one thing, from the time I was

started in the Air Force as an officer up until

the time I retired, so that's 40-some years.

And my wife, I don't remember all those details, but

she says, "Either you quit drinking or you're leaving."

So, I didn't want to leave, so I quit drinking,

and I quit cold turkey 12 years ago.

So my point is, I was hiding

emotions and things in drink, at that time.
