I wanted to commit suicide and decided to call 911 instead.

Matthew Jensen, US Army, US Marine Corps 2002 - 2012, talks about when he knew he needed to get help for PTSD.

Transcript

I was drinking for about eight straight days,

very hard liquor.

A bottle a night, or a bottle day, I would say,

and I got in a fight with my ex-wife

and was wanting to commit suicide,

and I decided to call 911 instead, for help,

because I didn't know any of the VA hotlines at the time.

And the police came and got me, and I was ambulanced

all the way to the VA in Palo Alto

and put into the psych ward there.

And the doctors explained to me what PTSD was, what I

was trying to do, and then I started learning from there.
