I want you to be able to succeed in dealing with that situation.

Dr. Ron Acierno (Clinical Psychologist) describes PTSD treatment.

Transcript

When we have our Veterans do what we call "in vivo" exposures,

meaning we go out into the community and do things,

I tell them, "I hope it doesn't go perfectly.

I hope there's more people than you expect,

or I hope there are loud noises,"

because I want you to be able to succeed

in dealing with that situation.

If everything goes perfectly and it's easy,

you didn't do it right.

It's like no pain, no gain.

If you're working out and you don't feel sore,

you're not pushing yourself hard enough.

If you're doing an exposure exercise and you don't feel tense,

you're not doing it hard enough.
