I started reliving instances in Iraq.

Andrew Reeves, US Army 1999 - 2009, talks about when he knew he needed to get help for PTSD.

Transcript

The moment I realized that I had PTSD,

or started seeing the symptoms of it, was shortly after

I had gotten word that one of the guys that I was with

in Iraq had been seriously killed.

He had been victimized by a roadside IED.

Shortly after that, I started re-living instances in Iraq where

my judgment and things like that in certain instances

really reflected on how that guy wound up in that position.

I started feeling really guilty, and that's when I realized

I started to really need to talk to somebody else.

I contacted some of the soldiers in my unit,

and one of the soldiers in my unit told me, basically,

that he had been dealing with the same thing and that

I should seek treatment regardless of what anybody tells me.

That's when I decided to, I began the process

of actually looking to get help.
