I started with PTSD treatment, and then after that I started substance abuse [treatment].

Chris Swift (US Army, 1999-2018) shares how a third DUI (driving under the influence) charge led him to seek out treatment for PTSD and substance misuse.

Transcript

I got my third DUI

February 8th, 2019.

And then I went to jail.

It was a Friday.

It was Friday morning, actually.

It was like 10:30 in the morning

that I got a DUI.

And somehow my parents

found out and they came

and got me on Monday.

And I said,

I got to go to rehab.

So a month later,

I end up at the rehab facility,

they call it

the domiciliary,

at the VA in Milwaukee.

And I spent 102 days there.

I started with

PTSD treatment

and then after that

I started substance abuse.

So three weeks in

I started substance abuse,

and then three more weeks,

I started with a general

like depression,

anxiety, mental health group.

So I did

three different treatments

as I was there.
