I started having nightmares.

David Carpentier, US Army 1977 - 2009, talks about when he knew he needed to get help for PTSD.

Transcript

I started having nightmares.

Waking up, middle of the night,

cold sweat, drenched in sweat.

I mean drenched so much that I had to

get up, take a shower, change sheets,

you know, that type of thing.

And, of course, you know, it disturbed my wife,

and it bothered me that

it was upsetting her.

And it was one day that after a nightmare

that she was pretty upset and

she told me that I needed to get help.

And she, actually the way she phrased it was

you know, I need you to do this,

not just for yourself, but I need you to do it for me.

And that's when it hit me that,

you know,

if part of being able

to protect her and take care,

taking care of her, I needed to have,

have her have peace of mind that I'm gonna be okay,

that we're gonna be okay.
