To be frank if I haven't been in counseling and treating this,

I would be one of two things right now.

I would either be dead which was my first choice

but I was too afraid to do that too, you know?

And my other choice was to stay loaded

on anti-anxiety medication just to survive.

And I think for several years that it really kept me alive

and I'm grateful for that.

However, it became unnecessary after years of treatment

and it really became unnecessary when I got sober.

So today I never thought

that I would ever have a different way to live.

Even my doctor, my MD, has said that to me.

She said, "You are doing so well," and she said,

"I honestly never thought that there was any other way for you

to live and I'm so glad that you took the chance to get clean

and sober to find out."

And that was like such a nostalgic moment for me

because she noticed and I'm not just a number.

They know me by my first name.
