I never forgave myself for a lot of the things that I thought I'd done over there.

Michael Hardiman (US Army, 1970-1974) explains that he did not want to accept what happened in Vietnam.

I never forgave myself for a
lot of the things that I thought

I'd done over there.

And of course

I never want to take ownership
for blowing up people

or shooting people
or anything like that.

You know, there was a ton of us.

I always would blame that
on somebody else.

That that couldn't have been me

until the realization came in
that it was me.

And then I took
ownership of that.

And when I took ownership
of that, then I was no longer

the good Christian boy
that I was raised up to be.
