I knew my [drinking] was going to diminish my judgment…and it was unacceptable to me.

Will Florez (US Coast Guard, 1988-2010) shares why he decided to stop drinking.

Transcript

When I was in the military,
I loved to drink tequila.

It was inexpensive.

A couple of shots
would give me feeling.

Nothing.

But like I said before,
I realized

I was cognizant
that I was creating

more problems for myself
than I was solving.

I was solving no problems.

I was just putting them
to the side

and allowing for my body
to be affected

by so much alcohol that it was.

I realized that it was
completely counterproductive.

I stopped because I had
a good conversation with myself.

I didn't like the feeling.

The next day, I didn't like
being feeling dehydrated.

I did not like the feeling
of not having all my faculties

when I knew
that I had to be on point

to continue the next mission,

because there was going
to be a next call to action.

And I knew that my

inability or my

Intake of

alcohol was going to diminish

my reaction time,

my judgment,
and it was unacceptable to me.
