I have to be there for him.

Transcript

I have a 23 year old son,

just been medically retired from the Air Force.

He had two rotations to Iraq and he was Security Forces.

And the Security Forces, he was on the front gate.

There was so much going on.

I see myself in him now exactly the same thing, withdrawn,

the answer to everything, close the door, be behind the door,

occupy yourself with minor things

that won't cause him to think.

And by me being there, a part, I feel like I'm that support group

that he would get up and go to it, is there at the house now.

So everything that I've gone through

and still going through, I'm supporting him.

I'm taking him to the VA.

I didn't have that.

I had to get to the crossroad.

But as a result, I'm seeing how it's easier for him,

it's that support group.

He's one of many young soldiers coming back.

Family members may not be there to understand,

so now that I understand I have to be there for him.
