I had a great counselor.

Pat Timms (US Army 1970 - 1973) talks about what PTSD treatment was like.

Transcript

I initially went to the VA

for a substance abuse program, which was very good.

And I had a great counselor, if you will, case manager,

that had picked up on some other things through my records

and suggested different things to go along.

Cognitive behavioral therapy, you know, avoidance issues,

intimacy issues, all the hot buttons that really and truly

formulate PTSD within the person.

I mean, you know, and a lot of these things,

the bell started going off and ringing,

and I was off and running.

You know, "I need more of this."

But it takes a little bit of dedication and root, hog, or die,

if you will, to get what you're eventually going to need.

In other words, this doesn't just come to you.

You've got to go out there and seek it out.
