I had been put on probation at a job for popping on a UA.

Jeremiah Civil, US Marine Corps 2001 - 2005, talks about when he knew he needed to get help for PTSD.

Transcript

I had been put on probation at a job for popping on a UA

and for coming to work drunk.

[laughs] All issues.

And so I had a mandatory AA meeting that I had to go to

and it was at one of these AA meetings that,

it was a Vietnam Vet that, it was after the meeting was over

and I had actually shared and he came up to me and talked to me.

He basically was like, "I heard some of the things that you said

in there and you know, I can relate.

I'm a Vietnam Veteran and I had lots of issues coming back

and one of those was alcoholism and that's a part

and parcel to the PTSD."

And he was like, you know, "Maybe this is a symptom

of maybe something bigger.

Maybe still look at the alcoholism piece,

but there's a second piece to this and there's help."

He had himself gone through the whole claim process

and was being seen at the VA and all that kind of stuff

and had a rough time himself but had gotten there and had said

that you know, it can be a rough process but that there's people

that know the way through it and that you can find your way

through it and ends up being better, for the better.
