I didn't tell anybody that I had been in the military or served in Vietnam for many, many years…

When I come home,
you know,

there was that old adage

that there's that crazy
blankety blank Vietnam vet,

and,

most of the people
that I had known

and been friends with
before I went in

the service

wouldn't even talk to me.

They'd seen me walking
down the street

and they'd cross the street

before they'd meet me and
talk to me on the street.

They didn't want anything
to do with me.

So, yeah.

That was,

that was an eye opener.

- [Woman] How did
that feel?

- Felt just about
the same way

as it felt when

you would be shunned
at the airport

if you had your uniform on.

After I got home, I
didn't tell anybody that I

had been in the military
or served in Vietnam

for many, many years

before I even told
anybody that I'd

been in the service.
