I didn't directly seek help for PTSD because I never thought I had it.

SPC Toby Brace, US Army 1996 - present, talks about why he didn't ask for help with his PTSD right away.

Transcript

I didn't directly seek help for PTSD

because I never thought I had it.

It was through deciding that I wanted to work things

out with my wife that kind of steered me in that direction.

I decided to be open to it and to take that avenue.

I was surprised with my diagnosis of PTSD mostly due to,

'cause I'd heard of other cases where other soldiers or whatever

who had had more severe experiences and or reactions

that I know had been diagnosed and had sought help.

My things just seemed to be minor in a way

so it really surprised me that I ended up coming

out with that diagnosis.
