I can remember [my son] looking just shocked.

James Monk, US Air Force 1988 - 2011, talks about how his PTSD affected his loved ones.

It's difficult for anybody to deal with somebody

who can get really, really angry over virtually nothing.

Yeah, you know, you hear of door slammers, well, I was a

door kicker, and a door puncher, and a door abuser.

Every door in our house has been replaced.

It's, for people -- I remember my son coming home one time

after I had just smashed probably the final door, and I was

walking out of the house to go and try and walk it off,

and he just happened to walk up to the house at the wrong time.

And I can remember him looking just shocked

at what was going on, but at the same time,

looking like he knew exactly what was going on.

And, you know, that's not normal.

Actually, that's one thing that we're still pretty bad about,

is talking about these things in the house.

It is the elephant in the room, still.

It still is because it's a difficult thing to talk about.
