I blockaded myself down in the basement.

Daniel Hamel Jr., US Army 1976 - 2007, talks about when he knew he needed to get help for PTSD.

Transcript

It was one of the times when I blockaded myself

down in the basement, except this time I took my rifle

and because it was like I was back overseas again

and bullets were flying around and like that.

And so I felt more comfortable with the rifle in my hand

and my counselor had to come out to my house to actually talk me

out of there because I wouldn't let the police anywheres

near me.

And you know, they didn't realized I wasn't a threat

but my counselor was able to let them know

that I wasn't a threat, that he could get me to come out.

And then I went to the VA hospital which is

where I got diagnosed finally with PTSD.
