What I find is I meet a lot of Veterans who really
do not want to come to the VA for treatment,
whether it's for posttraumatic stress disorder
related to combat or military sexual trauma,
because they're afraid of the stigma,
they're afraid of what other people will think,
or that other people will find out, or that people will
label them as crazy or something like that.
I always try to encourage everybody that I hear that from
to step forward anyway.
Posttraumatic stress disorder is a normal,
understandable reaction to the experiences
that many Veterans have been through, whether it's combat
or military sexual trauma.
So yeah, I would just encourage people to keep that in mind
if they're worried about coming in.
Many people seek treatment for posttraumatic stress disorder,
and it's nothing to be ashamed of, at all.
It's in fact, I think, something to be proud of.
