How can you help when you haven't seen what I've seen?

Dr. Juliette Harik, Clinical Psychologist, answers common questions about PTSD.

Transcript

I've had so many veterans ask me

how in the world I think that I could help them

because I've never been to war, I don't have PTSD.

And some of the Vietnam veterans that I worked with,

they were at war before I was even born, so what do I know?

And the truth is that I don't know what it's like

to go to war and I don't know what it's like to have PTSD,

but I've been trained in PTSD treatment

and I know the skills that can help you get better,

that can help you improve.

So, I can teach you those.

And you know your symptoms.

You live with them day-in and day-out,

so you're the expert in that.

But if we can work together

to bring those two pieces of knowledge together,

that's the recipe.

That's a recipe for success.
