He woke up screaming, and yelling, and fighting,

and in cold sweats.

I was very concerned for him.

We talked about his nightmares, and gradually they dissipated

over the next few years, and he didn't have too many.

I did observe over the next 10, 15 years of our marriage

that he had them when he was stressed

or when he watched war movies.

And I really didn't think too much about it.

The first 20 years of our marriage

was a happy time of our married life.

We had a family, he had good work, and so I didn't,

I wasn't concerned.

As married life went on and he gradually lost a job

and was out of work for a period of time, and had other jobs

and lost them, the nightmares came back

with greater intensity, and I became more concerned.

The nightmares came back,

there were other things that showed up, his mood swings,

his temper, at times, his inability to keep finances straight,

those types of things.

And I could never fully understand what was really going on.

I wanted an answer.

I wanted him to seek help, but he was never willing.
