He would talk to me in just saying, "This was bad,

and I don't want to bring that bad into our home."

And so he wasn't comfortable talking to me

about what he saw or what he did

or the feelings that he had inside

because he wanted to separate those feelings

from our home life.

And I mean, I appreciate him trying to protect me

in that way, but I think it built a wall between us

because I wasn't able to be there for him.
