We finally made the choice to go up to the VA,

and I say "we" because I was with him the whole time.

I told him I wasn't going to let him

go through anything by himself.

So, we decided when he kind of snapped one day

and just, the anger got the better of him,

and I finally told him, "Something has to change.

I can't live like this, it's not fair to us to live like this."

We had a young baby, and he was disconnecting from us

so much that I felt like a single parent,

and it wasn't fair to me, and it wasn't fair to our son.

And it wasn't fair to him to live that way.

He needed something more than the constant nightmares

and the constant fear and trying to go into a situation

always being in control of it.
