He never spoke of the war, never watched war movies,

never engaged in a conversation about the wars,

either current or back in World War II.

And I thought that was unusual for somebody

that actually experienced war firsthand, but I didn't realize

that that was one of his ways of pushing it out of his head,

pushing it back, pushing it back, pushing it back.

So that was another way of him trying to

forget about it the best that he could.
