He didn't want to be different than anyone else.

Transcript

When he was released from the Army after the war,

he had been so traumatized by his three years of service,

all the fighting, the atrocities that he experienced firsthand,

and then being kept as a prisoner, and being starved,

and going through such atrocities that

any normal person or any person that's had a normal life

would have no understanding of,

he didn't want to be different than anyone else, coming home.

He wanted to just fit right back in, and he just wanted to

put it aside, and put it in a compartment,

and not have to deal with it.

He just wanted to forget it and move on.
