The goal was never cessation.

Ayla Bennett (US Army, 2004-Present) shares how COPE, an integrated treatment for PTSD and substance use, helped her set goals to cut back on drinking.

Transcript

The goal was never cessation.

And with that goal in mind,

with a clear understanding of

of that goal.

Doctor Santana

gave me usable skills,

processes to use

when I’m out

and about in the wild

with alcohol situations,

so that I wouldn't

go over my limits

so that I could have,

so I could recognize,

How much do I want to drink?

Why do I want to drink?

What situation am I in,

what environment am I in?

An awareness

that I had never had before

and when I felt

tempted to drink more,

or when I was in an environment

where peer pressure

was prevalent, the tools

that she gave me, the

mental tools that she gave me

the skill sets that

she helped develop within me.

I had never been to therapy

where I left

as such an enhanced individual.
