Get help...It's the bravest thing you could ever do.

Reedy Hopkins, US Air Force 1983 - 2011, shares his advice for others who may be concerned about PTSD.

Transcript

If you feel that you suffer symptoms of PTSD

but the people around you, whether it be your family,

your friends, your commanders,

your peers, or your subordinates, say, you know,

"Buck through it, toughen up,"

all I will tell you is one of two things are going on.

If they've been through the same thing you've been through

and they're telling you it's not that bad, they're in denial.

And they are waiting, they are an accident waiting to happen.

If they haven't been through it, then

I know it's peer pressure, and it's easy to say,

"Yeah, maybe they're right."

The brave thing to do is you need to get help.

You are a ticking time bomb waiting to go off,

and I will sit here and tell you I probably was

a ticking time bomb waiting to go off and didn't realize it.

So, the thing I will leave you with is go get help.

Seek it out.

It's the best and bravest thing you could ever do.
