Four of us [in the group] were POW's...

Albert M. Perna (US Army 1942 - 1945) talks about what PTSD treatment was like.

Transcript

The psychiatrist came in from California and called me

on the phone and interviewed me one-on-one,

and she said, "Next week, I have four more men coming."

And we met together for almost 10 years,

and we had a party, it was a gang of 20, 20 guys.

And there weren't all POWs,

there was only four of us that were POWs.

And the rest of them were all from Second World War.

And we were allowed to only speak about,

we weren't allowed to talk about any religion,

politics, or anything about the war.

All we could tell is what happened to us from week to week

with our children, our wives, and whatever

interesting happened to us, and that's the way she kept it.

And she was very demanding, she kept us in line,

and she was marvelous.

So that's the, but we knew then at that time, we knew then,

we got very familiar with that word.
