The fireworks started going off...it sounded like RPG's.

David Carpentier, US Army 1977 - 2009, talks about how he knew he had PTSD.

Actually, this past New Year's Eve,

I did not pre-plan.

I did not stop to think about it.

And after going out to a movie with my wife,

came home, we're sitting around, just watching TV.

I completely forgot about midnight,

and fireworks started going off.

I ended up on the floor,

and calling my wife to get down.

And she tried to calm me down,

and I kept telling her there's RPGs,

'cause it sounded a lot like RPGs.

But eventually I calmed down.

We had been watching an old movie,

an old black and white movie from the 50s,

and I didn't want her to get any more upset,

so I got up, I went to my shooting bag,

pulled out my hearing protectors.

I put 'em on, and I sat down to watch the show.
