Evidence-based psychotherapies can help with moral injury.

Dr. Shira Maguen explains that if you go through a PTSD treatment and still have moral injury symptoms, there are a variety of options available to you.

The good news is that
what we know is that evidence

based psychotherapies can help
with moral injury symptoms.

So I think that
if you can assess

in the beginning what
your moral injury symptoms are,

you can get, for example,
cognitive processing therapy

and then you can assess again
and see if the symptoms

are improved.

Now, what we also have
is for people who go through

evidence based
psychotherapies for PTSD,

and they're still having
symptoms.

We now have a variety of options
that can be offered

to follow up and give people

additional specified
moral injury care.

So that's available at some VAs,
but not at all VAs right now.

But I think in upcoming years
we'll see more

of those treatments
being more widely available.
