Don't be the one to isolate yourself because of your gender...

Sherie Warner, US Army 2001 - 2007, shares her advice for others who may be concerned about PTSD.

There's the old saying, "You have to work twice as hard

to get half the recognition."

So I think that a lot of women come back from these places

and they are dealing with the PTSD, and they are afraid

that they'll be seen as weaker because they're women,

that it will be a female issue.

It's not.

I know several men that I came back with

who have struggled with this.

To hold yourself to a higher standard,

if you were a woman with stomach flu,

you would vomit just like a man with stomach flu.

And if you're a woman with PTSD, you're going to suffer

just like men with PTSD suffer, and you need to not,

don't be the one to isolate yourself because of your gender.

If other people want to do that to you, that's their problem,

their issue, but you need to take care of yourself.
