The treatments that we use for combat-related
posttraumatic stress disorder were developed in other areas.
They were developed originally for victims
of interpersonal violence, physical and sexual assault.
They've since been applied to disaster victims, car accident
victims, terrorism victims, and combat trauma individuals.
They all seem to be very effective, so it doesn't really matter
if it was an accident during a stateside exercise or combat,
the interventions can be effective and can be effective
for all types of extreme stress reactions.
We see probably 30 to 40 percent of our Veterans
have as their primary problem an accident that occurred
because remember, our men and women are dealing with
heavy equipment, they're dealing with dangerous equipment.
Accidents happen.
So we have a very large number of people who have
suffered the effects of these types of accidents.
