Some Veterans I've worked with talk about concerns
about being around kids.
And so, we talk about what it might feel like to be
around kids, what thoughts or concerns might come up.
They might go out and go to a store with kids around them
and slowly expose themselves to that experience.
They might then go to a park and be around kids there.
And with time and with gradually increasing the intensity
of exposure and the amount of children around them,
they find that they can really control their distress,
that the level of an intensity distress actually decreases
with time to a point where they can be around kids
without having any kind of distress, or upset, or anxiety
and really enjoy the moment as well and not feel upset,
not have reminders of the trauma, but be present, and enjoy,
and play with kids, and just really embrace the moment.
