That is definitely not a feeling I want when it comes to my wife and my children.

SPC Toby Brace, US Army 1996 - present, talks about how his PTSD affected his loved ones.

Transcript

I would wake, whether it would be, my wife would reach over

and go to grab my arm or something,

I would often just kind of jump and almost swat

in a way to push her away.

I had done it with, I have a young little girl at home.

She would jump into our bed while I was asleep and in kind

of similar manner just kind of jumped and kind of pushed away.

That was one of the things that lead to definitely deciding

that something wasn't quite right.

Sometimes it seems like being distant

and not getting too close sometimes is easier in a way

as far as to the feeling of loss if something happens.

But that is definitely not a feeling I want when it comes

to my wife and my children.
