CPT stands for Cognitive Processing Therapy.

James Jones (Social Worker) describes PTSD treatment.

Transcript

CPT stands for Cognitive Processing Therapy.

Essentially, it breaks down into four components of, education.

Then we want to examine the trauma itself,

so it's a writing therapy,

we'll have you write out that trauma.

Then we examine the thinking that's behind keeping you stuck

in that trauma or in those emotions.

And then we want to look at some of the very basic components

of PTSD in your life: safety, trust, power, control, esteem,

and intimacy, and we address all of those

in Cognitive Processing Therapy and help you understand

that there is gray in your life,

that not everything is as black and white

as trauma makes it seem.

And once we've done that and you've obtained these new skills,

you'll find out that your life opens up and new opportunities

to experience things come to you.
