Coming home was extremely hard.

Nicholas Provenza (US Marine Corps, 2018 - 2022) shares why coming home was a hard adjustment — and how finding community helped him get back on his feet.

After I left the Marine Corps

coming home was extremely hard
because I felt

like no one understood me.

And no matter what I would tell
people, they might feel bad.

But they wouldn't really

care too much because they don't
know what I'm going through.

So trying to,
you know, adjust and find

that community or just being

just being allowed to open up
to people was extremely hard.

So I just I just kept
bottling everything up

until

it just was getting too much
to even tolerate. And,

you know, once
I started going through therapy

and everything

is when I was able to find
that community for myself

and that community, it wasn't
even, you know, veterans.

It was just the community -

It was the community
I've had my whole life,

my friends and my family.

It's just, you know, learning
how to open up

and just talk to people is,
you know,

what I had to do
to get back on my feet.
