Breathing is the most important thing.

Valerie Ovalle (US Army, 2004 - 2005) talks about how PTSD treatment can help.

Transcript

The one thing I learned,

the most important thing I learned about treatment

is to breathe.

(laughs)

A lot of times when I would have a trigger

or I would just

wake up in the middle of the night

with a nightmare,

I would forget to breathe

and I think breathing is the most important thing

that I learned, because,

if I feel like a trigger is coming on,

I can remove myself from that situation and just breathe,

and it will help me calm myself down,

and also, patience, I think.

I think I'm a very patient person now

because of treatment,

but I think those are the two main things.
