Am I crazy?

Dr. Patrick Reilly, Clinical Psychologist, answers common questions about PTSD.

Transcript

Some people come in for treatment,

they ask us, they say, "Am I crazy?"

And we tell them, "No, you're not crazy,"

that what you experienced was definitely trauma,

and people's reactions to that are, say,

a normal reaction to a very abnormal situation.

So it makes, actually, a lot of sense that you would be

having these symptoms associated with that trauma.

We try to normalize that for people,

help them understand what has happened to them,

explain the symptoms.

And in doing so, people do understand and get an idea that

"No, I'm not crazy, this does make sense."
