After I retired...I was becoming more Irritable, and then the drinking stepped in.

Jim Moorman, US Marine Corps 1963 - 1971, talks about when he knew he needed to get help for PTSD.

Transcript

I had a friend of mine, we used to fish together,

who was diagnosed, after he retired, with PTSD.

And we talked and so forth, and he looked at me and he says,

"Jim, you got the classic symptoms of PTSD,"

but that was still early on, I mean,

I hadn't retired yet or anything else and, "Yeah, OK."

And then after I retired and quit the business,

I found myself, I was becoming more irritable, and then

the drinking stepped in, and that started bothering me,

and that really started bothering my wife, and, God love her,

she stuck with me through my career and this,

but it just, I decided I better do something,

so I went and seeked help for the drinking.

I went through the psychiatric clinic and talked with

the doctor there, and then they sent me over to the

substance abuse clinic, and then from there, I attended

quite a few classes and so forth and got diagnosed

over there by a psychiatrist, and it was PTSD.
